It’s always cheery to see the blackthorn in bloom, the first tree in Blighty to flower. The bloom marks the first nail in winter’s coffin and it’s time of bloom indicates the kind of summer we are likely to have. The old phrase ‘the sooner the better’ is apt. It was in full bloom 18th February 2024!
