This painting was inspired by a visit to the His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India. Living in Dharamsala, I was lucky to attend the Dalai Lama talks on many occasions, however one of the most memorable was in June, 2014. It was a small gathering of mostly foreigners and the talk was in English for a change. He sat in the forecourt of the temple as the sun poured in over the courtyard and the monkeys raced on the support beams overhead. He spoke of kindness, of dhamma, of non-violence and love, and then opened up questions to the audience. One girl asked about pain and suffering, another about world peace, but by far my favourite question was this: I would like to know, do you like to dance? - to which he just chuckled his funny chuckle.
