About Jane Rees-Parfitt

  • Biography
My current body of work is inspired by the beauty and mystery of natural Welsh landscapes. I hand build using ancient pinching and coiling techniques and have incorporated clay dug  from various locations around South Wales,, onto my pieces using a unique process which is as unpredictable as nature itself. I fire to a temperature of 1240 degrees in an electric kil;.

The forms are ambiguous yet familiar  and their surfaces represent the passing of time such as the weathering and erosion of the earth’s surface, evoking geological forces. Mineral deposits have been captured and fused onto my pieces before they began their journey down to the sea.
